Big 5 Sporting Good announced this week they will be closing 5 Texas locations including Amarillo. Sources are saying Big 5 Amarillo is not closing due to their lack of performance or sales, rather just supplying issues.

Doors are set to close later this Summer, nearing the end of September. Other Texas Big 5 locations affected by the closures include Plainview, Amarillo, Lubbock, Odessa and Stephenville.

While Big 5 Amarillo was known for having much cheaper prices, we still have other places to buy sporting good equipment like Academy on Soncy and Bucks on 45th. However, in smaller Texas towns like Plainview Big 5 closing their doors may have a more lasting affect on the community.

Between all five Texas Big 5 stores closing this Summer, reports say less then 100 jobs will be lost. The Plainview location has been ran since August 2012 by only 13 employees.

No word from the city on what business will take Big 5's prime property off of I-40.
