Last week, I went on a work trip and the whole flight one thing stayed on my mind-babies.  Not in the way you're probably thinking, but babies as passengers.  Why don't they require any restraints?

On the trip there were several families traveling with young children and babies.  A lot of them were just 'on lap' travelers.  But the thing that stood out was that they had no kind of restraints at all.  We are required to wear seat belts during take-off, landing, and turbulence.  And sometimes turbulence can get pretty shaky and bad.

I understand that you can save money by not purchasing a seat for them, but they still deserve some kind of protection.  Are adult lives more important than a baby's?  I don't think so.

There should be some safety requirements for 'lap only' travelers.  So maybe the airlines should make adults, who are carrying babies, bring a sling or papoose.  This way when the seat belt light comes on the baby can be nice and secure against a seat belted person.

On most of the airlines' website, it does say that 'on lap' isn't the safest for the babies, but they don't seem to enforce something safer.

Here are some videos of airplane turbulence.

So do you think there should be some kind of restraints for young children and babies or do you think the system in place is fine?
