Growing up there was no such thing as a 'time out,' we usually just got a busting.  But, in today's society there is a fine line between discipline and child abuse.  So, do you spank your children?

As a child, my mom only had to give me a look and I'd straighten up.  But, if I did cross the line she did not hesitate to spank me or any of my siblings.  She always used her hand, which was plenty hard enough.  I never considered it child abuse and I usually deserved it.  I think the fear of being spanked helped me avoid trouble.

But, in today's society, it is frowned upon to spank your kids. Sometimes, it’s even called child abuse. Time outs have been created along with other ways to punish kids.

I have a son who just turned 5 and who, more recently, has been acting out and not listening.  Maybe it is the excitement of summer, I'm not really sure.  But, what I am sure of is that spanking is becoming an option in my home.

I have never spanked him before.  Usually, I'll take away some toys but that isn't working anymore. I don't want my son to be disobedient and disrespectful.  I don't want him to grow up thinking he can do whatever he wants with no punishment.

I feel that if you do not cross the line, spankings can be very effective.  My hubby, on the other hand, wants to try other methods of discipline.  What do you think?  Do you spank in your home?  Is it effective?
