Amarillo Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Texas panhandle is such a huge part of the development of youth in our area and brings essential mentoring and support to them. During the COVID-19 pandemic there is a much needed call for mentors for the children of Amarillo and all over the Panhandle. Today COVID-19 has affected the way everyone works, including Big Brothers Big Sisters. Their mission is to create and support one to one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

There has quite literally never been a more important time to be a Big”, said Christopher Flores, Enrollment and Match Specialist. Our Littles are in desperate need of friends who can help them through this difficult time.

Now, volunteer applications and screenings can be completed virtually with no contact. Currently Big Brother Big Sisters has a list of at least 20 Texas youths who need a Big Brother or Big Sister. That list grows each week while the list of volunteers unfortunately for the children does not.

During this extremely stressful time, think about those Texas youths who need a mentor to help them cope with our ever changing community and world.

Please consider volunteering as a Big Brother Big Sister by starting the application process today by visiting their website www.panhandlebigs.org or by calling their office at 806-351-2210 and leave a message.

Although most matches are separated physically, Flores said, small things like phone calls, text messages, and virtual meetings are making huge differences in the lives of our Littles.

Big Brothers Big Sisters change lives. Volunteer today.
