What Is Cornhole Madness?

This event is a fundraiser for the Randall County Sheriff's Office and the Randall County Fire Department. It's a way to raise funds for the Employee Assistance Fund.

When the RCSO and RCFD employees face sudden and unexpected financial hardships, the fund is there to help. That's what your money will be going towards.

A pretty noble cause, if you ask me.

When Is Cornhole Madness?

What If You've Never Heard Of Cornhole...

As hard as it may be to imagine, there are those among us who are not familiar with the fine sport of Cornhole. Understandably so, they tend to be confused by the name and overall objective of the game.

Cornhole is a game that is primarily enjoyed at tailgate parties, backyard bbqs, and other similar events. In recent history, Cornhole tournaments have become common place across most of the nation.

It's hard going anywhere that hasn't been exposed to Cornhole. It's so widespread, that there's even an official governing body for the sport.

The Beginnings Of Cornhole...

...are somewhat open to debate. For some, they believe that the game can trace its lineage back to the end of the 19th century when a patent was filed for what would eventually become the Cornhole board.

For others, it was Germany that exported the sport to the rest of the world after a man was trying to help out some kids who were throwing rocks at a hole.

One legend even places the blame squarely on the shoulders of a guy from Kentucky named Jebediah. Still, others say it was a game orginally played by the Native Americans.

In most places, Cornhole was played by using bags that were filled with dry kernels of corn. Those bags would be pitched towards the Cornhole board, where hopefully they land in a hole

Bags of corn. Hole in a board. Put them together, and what do you get?

Cornhole.
