By now, we're getting pretty used to seeing headlines about the cost of everything going up. According to a recent study, even though prices are going up you can stretch your dollars a little further in Amarillo than in other cities.

How Does Amarillo's Cost Of Living Stack Up Against Other Cities?

According to the study done by Porch, Amarillo's over-all cost of living is 3.8% lower than the national average. That's not bad. While it's not quite Florence-Muscle Shoals, AL which is 17.6% lower than the national average, it's still a discount compared to other places.

Utilities Are The Expensive Punch In The Wallet In Amarillo

According to this study, Amarillo's cost for utilities is 13.3% higher than the average. Interestingly enough, the places that have a more affordable over-all cost of living, all are over the national average when it comes to the cost of utilities.

The Cost Of Housing In Amarillo Is Where We Win Big

The one area where Amarillo really shines is when it comes to housing. According to the study, Amarillo's cost of housing is 16.3% lower than the national average. So while we pay more for the lights and central heat and air in the house, the house itself was cheap compared to other places.

Cost Of Goods In Amarillo, And Personal Income

Another category that was studied was the cost of goods. We hover close to the national average, coming in only 2.6% lower than the national average.

When it comes to per capita personal income, we come in at $51,116. Looking at the top of the list, the per capita personal income is somewhere in the same neighborhood roughly as ours.

So when it comes to living in Amarillo, at least according to this study, you'll probably be able to afford a place. Just be prepared for the cost of utilities to go along with it.
