Is Amarillo’s Summer Street Maintenance Already Underway for 2021
Originally, I thought it wasn't supposed to kick off until May. After checking the project's website, it appears it was scheduled to start on April 12 and will go through September.
On my way in to work every morning, I take a right at Coulter and 34th at the Whataburger. This morning I was surprised to find the turning lane blocked off with cones.
Then, as I was heading toward the radio station on 34th, I saw why. Crews were working in the far right lane of the east bound lanes on 34th.
A little further down the road, and I spied with my little eye more things colored orange. These cones were blocking off the right lane of westbound traffic on 34th.
They made their way all the way to the entrance of our offices.
I checked the City's map for the Summer Street Maintenance Program to see if that's what is actually going on. So far, everything on the map is still "scheduled/bid phase." Nothing is marked as complete or planned for the next 48 hours.
Maybe they're just getting ready?
Looking at the City's interactive map for the Summer Street Maintenance Program, I was able to find out that the projects scheduled to impact my daily drive to work are scrub seal, microsurfacing, and cape seal on 34th between Bell and Coulter.
South Coulter is scheduled for overlay going from 34th down to 45th.

It would be a good idea to take a look at the map just you know what areas to be on the lookout for. Also, when you're driving through those areas, slow down and watch out for the crews. They want to make home safe, too.
