Sakura Building Bought. You Won’t Believe What It’s Going To Be.
It's been one tough year for Japanese steakhouses in Amarillo. It started back in July when Sakura announced they were going to be shutting it down after decades of serving Amarillo.
Then just a week or so ago, a sign popped up on the door at Sumo stating their doors were locked due to non-payment of rent.

Needless to say, it's been tough on many businesses in Amarillo this year, but for whatever reason it's hit the Japanese steakhouses the hardest.
Sure, the Japanese steakhouses can get a little pricey. I mean they're putting on a show for you while they cook your dinner right in front of you.
You aren't just paying for the food, you're paying for the experience of it. Unfortunately, the first thing to go from people's budgets in a tough time is going out to eat, especially at places that are a bit more expensive than a normal dine-in restaurant.
Well guess what? There could be some good news on the way if you're a fan of them. We might have a new one coming...but you're already familiar with it.
According to the FIMC Commercial Realty Facebook page, the old Sakura building has been sold to a new owner.
Now, while that usually doesn't give us any insight as to what something could become, there was more information that kind of tipped its hand.
On the Facebook post, they wrote, "Not only that but he negotiated the sale of all equipment, and the Sakura name too!"
Wait...does that mean...could it be? Sakura is coming back?! I have an unconfirmed source that mentioned to me months ago that someone she knew was in negotiations to buy the building and reopen it.
Well, based on the wording of this Facebook post, it would appear that source could be correct. You don't buy all the equipment at a Japanese steakhouse AND the name of the restaurant if you weren't planning on reopening it as such.
Japanese steakhouse equipment is very different from that of normal kitchen and restaurant equipment, so buying up everything says yeah, we're coming back.
Standby for official word because it could be coming soon. In the meantime, check out the sale video here.
