Everywhere you look on social media right now, there are photos and videos of the areas lakes and rivers. A lot of it is great news for areas that had been struck hard by the drought conditions we've been facing for a while now. One place that came to mind that I haven't seen in about a year, was the 9th Street Trails (Hobo Hills).

With all of the rain we've had, the 9th Street Trails have turned into a beautiful secret garden in Amarillo.

9th Street Trails For Mountain Biking, BMX; A Treasure Trove Of Nature

As Amarillo continues to grow, and we see new construction popping up all over the place, 9th Street Trails serve as more than just a spot for two-wheel enthusiasts to get some weekend kicks. The trails are a great way to get in some time "in nature" without having to drive an hour out of town.

The parking lot had some places where there was still standing water. You could see where someone had recently visited the trails, and might have had a bit of a "time" trying to get out thanks to the mud.

I shared some of the photos I took on my recent trek with someone I know enjoys being outdoors as much as I do. Their response echoed my own feelings. It was nice seeing the trails look so green, and full of "not dead" plants.

Flowers are in bloom everywhere you look. There's all kinds of plants thriving at the moment. It's a different sight compared to the first time I went out there, when we had been rain starved for so long.

The Creek Running Through 9th Street Trails

The last time I went to see the trails, the creek running through the area wasn't much to look at. The water was little more than a steady trickle.

Now, the water is rushing through. Before, I had no problem crossing the concrete from one side to the other. Now, my feet are soaked.

The rushing water provides some nice views from the trails above as you're walking by. Definitely worth the trip.

The Only Two Downsides To The Trails At The Moment

There's not much to complain about when it comes to the trails. Once you get close to the creek down at the bottom, you forget that you're right next door medical offices and Medi Park.

If I had a word of caution, it would be about the mosquitos. For the love of all that is holy, they're awful. Spritz yourself with your favorite repellent before you set out.

The other thing I would want to mention is the trash. The place is by no means full of litter, but if everyone took some out with them when they left, it would fix a problem.

Other than mosquitos and the occasional water bottle or plastic bag, it's worth taking a little time out of your day to go explore.
