We recently asked the question about the Popeyes on Paramount Blvd here in Amarillo. We wanted to know what happened to cause them to close early on Sunday. As of this story, they are still closed.

We asked because we didn't have much information. Just what was on the one door from the Amarillo Health Department, which wasn't much. There was also a post that said the fire department was there early in the morning.

We did get confirmation and pretty much the whole story. According to the health department:

  • Inspection Purpose: Emergency Response

  • Inspector: Whitney Hale

  • Inspection Comments: Fire started in electrical of fryer (same one as last time) and went up area. Due to business being closed and vent hood being turned off, all smoke stayed in business. Exit signs melted, and possibly electrical in ceiling. Due to this, Xcel cut electricity, causing meat to spoil. Establishment permit is suspended until power is back on, equipment that was damaged is replaced, all areas that are damaged are repaired, and the building is inspected by all proper departments including Environmental Health Department. Further legal action can be taken if establishment begins food operation before re-inspection. No food is allowed in the establishment until re-inspection.

That answers a lot of our questions. It makes sense why certain boxes were ticked off on the initial City of Amarillo Health Inspection sign at the restaurant.

When I drove by earlier they did have plenty of notice that the restaurant is closed. So there was not as much confusion as there was on Sunday.

I believe that the only ones to miss the memo that Popeyes on Paramount was closed are the geese.

You know, the ones who strut around Lawrence Lake and the surrounding area like they own it
