There are many things that make Amarillo near and dear to our hearts. We may get annoyed with some things that happen on a daily here but don't you dare let some outsider try to tell us our business.

We don't take kindly to others saying bad things about our area. We can. We have earned that right. You want to complain about the wind. Hold my beer. We have lived it. We have endured it so we have every right.

There are clear signs that will convince anyone that we are indeed from this great city we call Amarillo.

  • Yes, We Know All About the Cadillac Ranch - If you ask us to take you out but first we must stop by Walmart for some spray paint we will say no. We know that people leave their half empty cans right there. We can finish them up and guess what? We will bring them with to dispose of the trash. Don't Mess With Texas.
  • We Know that Matthew McConaughey Story - Don't try to tell me about that time that Matthew McConaughey was moving to Amarillo. No, he was not. No, he did not. He does have ties to the area. His friendship with Matt Martindale but he is NOT moving here.
  • The Big Texan - Yes, we know all about The Big Texan. We do go there when family comes from out of town. We know you have all seen the billboards. We know you want to see that 72 oz. steak. We know you will hope someone is trying the challenge. We do not go there on a regular basis. We do go for our free breakfast meal. I mean I do.
  • The Wind - Yes the wind is crazy here. Yes, we really are the windy city. Not that Chicago place. Which I am from there so I really, really know the winds are worst here. Just know on a calm day for Amarillo it is probably windier than anywhere you are from.
  • Construction - Yes, construction is bad everywhere. I know that. I feel that Amarillo has construction zones inside construction zones. We also tend to start projects and just sit and wait. We know eventually they will be done but just in time to start them up again.
  • Palo Duro Canyon - We love Palo Duro Canyon. We love to go hiking down there. It's our smaller version of the Grand Canyon. We are lucky to have such a great place nearby. If you come to town and want to visit in the summer we will check the forecast. We know that whatever it is in the city it's even hotter down in the Canyon. We know they close trails if it gets too hot. If we do go we will over prepare with water. We know better.
  • The Tri-State Fair - We love when the fair is is town. We love the fair food. We know how crazy it gets. A lot of people go to the fair. So we are prepared. Hey, some of us just go for the food so we know that if we go during lunch time it is free admission. We can enjoy the fair food with a bit fewer people. Corn dog on a stick, tornado potatoes, everything deep fried. Bring it on.
  • The Amarillo Sod Poodles - We finally got minor league baseball back in Amarillo. We got a nice new field. We all got upset when they tore down the old one. So much nostalgia. We do love our Sod Poodles though. We didn't know that a sod poodle is another name for a prairie dog, either. We think that was made up but we like the name.
  • Amarillo Has a Lot of Weird Landmarks - Yes, we have the Cadillac Ranch, the Floating Mesa, those unfinished legs off I-27 and Sundown, Channel Seven News and their weird lights. We all know those are the handiwork of Stanley Marsh. We also know that there have been some not great stories come out about him. We do still try to enjoy some of the weirdness he brought to the city.
  • Our Weather - A lot of people are surprised that we get the extreme weather that we do. We know that we can get all four-seasons in one day. Yes, we get snow. Yes, we get tornadoes. Yes, we have flooding. We even occasionally witness an earthquake. If you don't like the weather wait ten minutes it will change. Except for the wind. That will always blow.

Google Answers the Top 10 Questions About Amarillo

I love Google. It can literally answer ANYTHING you need it to answer. Whether it's right or wrong is a totally different question.

Recently, I found myself wondering about something and went to Google. And that's when I started noticing the "people also asked..." section and BOY...Some of them made perfect sense, some of them were interesting, and one of them was downright baffling...and it was a top 10 question which is even more absurd.

So let's see what we've got. Here's the top 10 questions as asked to Google about Amarillo.
