New Mexican Restaurant Set to Open on Amarillo’s Route 66

Amarillo is blessed with many things. We’re lucky to have so many great restaurants, and even luckier to have a piece of history running right through our city. Route 66 is in the heart of Amarillo, and any time a new business opens up, it gives us all a great excuse to cruise part of the Mother Road.

Plus, it gives our tourist friends more options for dining.

Our Historic Route 66 is home to many antique stores, boutiques, and coffee shops, but it is also home to many great restaurants. Currently, 6th Street is home to Amarillo's oldest restaurant, The Golden Light Cafe. It is also home to Bracero's, The Handle Bar and Grill, Little Laos, Smokey Joe's, and Cafe Moonwater, to name a few. Oh, and it's also home to Old Tascosa Brewing Company.

El Maestro Taquero Bar & Grill is Opening on Amarillo's Route 66

El Maestro is a new Mexican Restaurant opening at 3121 SW 6th Ave. This building was home to Marshall's Tavern and Austin's Pub.

Owners Ivan Carnero and Angel Arreola have been working to transform the space, making it a great spot for visitors and Amarillo residents looking for a great meal and drinks.

Tacos Gobernador - shrimp in a corn tortilla with mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, poblano peppers, house dressing, and served with rice, avocado, and a salad.

Tripitas Crujientes - grilled tripe on a crispy tortilla, served with a salad, salsa, guacamole, and bone marrow.

When Does El Maestro Taquero in Amarillo Open?

The Grand Opening for this restaurant hasn't been announced; however, when it opens, prepare yourself for a wait. If it looks this good, imagine how delicious it tastes.
