Here we thought we had it bad with cities close by called Pecos, which some folks incorrectly pronounce Pee-cos, or Waxahachie, TX, in which case you're better off trying to pronounce Worcestershire correctly. Unusual names of cities in Texas are not far-fetched. Part of my family once lived in Boerne. I dare you to attempt that one!

But as I was scrolling through TikTok yesterday I came across one of my favorite TikTokers RalphtheComedian talking about cities in Texas you do not want to visit. I didn't pay any mind to that part but one thing that did catch my eye? The NAMES of a couple of the cities he mentioned!

CUT & SHOOT, TEXAS- Does it get anymore Texan than thatHow on earth did this city get its name? Here is a brief history. According to, back in 1912 in the midst of an argument once of the townspeople shouted the phrase

I'm going to cut around the corner and shoot through the bushes in a minute!

And thus the name of the town was born. Cut & Shoot is located 40 miles north of Houston.

GUN BARREL CITY, TEXAS- another city in Texas with a 100% Texan name. According to,

the name originated from Gun Barrel Lane, which connected Mabank and Payne Springs. According to local historians, the name was first used by J.C. Waits and is a reference to the relatively straight nature of the road.

Gun Barrel City, TX is located 50 miles SE of Dallas, population of just over 6,000 as of the 2020 census.

BANGS, TEXAS I just have 1 question? Does everyone in Bangs, TX have great bangs? I've got jokes folks! According to, Bangs, Texas

was named for its location in the Samuel Bangs survey. In 1886 a post office was established there, and in 1892 Bangs had eight businesses and a population of fifty.

Today the population of Bangs is 1,550 and the city is located 8 miles east of Brownwood.
