I hear people complaining all the time about things in Amarillo. They complain about the traffic. They complain about the construction. There are even complaints about the weather.

We can't do anything about the weather. Oh and the traffic and the construction can go hand in hand. I get it things can get annoying with all of the different orange cones. Oh and what about our drivers? They can be bad but what can we do?

One of the things that we should have love for but don't really think about is our airport. Now the Rick Husband International Airport is not big. It is not fancy at all. We don't have choices when it comes to somewhere to stop to get a bite to eat.

We also don't have different shops to kill time looking for a new book or a magazine to rad on the place. What we do have is much more important.

When we fly into Amarillo or anywhere from another airport we have to get there a couple hours before our takeoff time. That early arrival takes time away from our vacation. Flying out of Amarillo we are fortunate to only have to get there a bit over an hour from our flight. That is really nice.

Getting to the counter to check in to Southwest Airlines or whatever airline we are flying on is pretty easy. The lines are usually not to long even if there is one. There is usually not much of a wait and that is great.

Once we get rid of our bags the next obstacle is the TSA checkpoint. At some airports that can be the death of anyone running late. It's pretty easy here in Amarillo. We are so lucky.

If you are on the other end and have to pick someone up from the airport our cell phone lot is huge. I had to pick my daughter up from a flight in last week. I was already heading to the airport when I found out the flight was delayed taking off. It was going to be an hour late into Amarillo. I could turn around and go home or I could wait in our cell phone lot. In other airports if you are there to pick someone up and they are not out there are countless drives around the airport. Nope, not in Amarillo. We just sit in the cell phone lot and wait for a phone call or text saying they are hear. This is huge.

So Amarillo may not have a lot of fancy features in their airport but they have the things that matter when you need to travel.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.

Here's a couple of ways you can say you're from Amarillo.....without saying you're from Amarillo.
