A mother from Aurora, Colorado was arrested for allegedly starting a scam that involved her 6-year-old son. Sandy Nguyen, 28, convinced her son, family, friends and community that her son had been diagnosed with cancer.

Sandy and the community began collecting money for her son through school fundraisers and other events back in 2013. Sandy collected more than $25,000 that was placed into an account for use by the family. Sheriff' executed a search warrant at Nguyen's home and found approximately $23,000 in cash.

Nguyen admitted that her son does not have cancer and told them that some of the money recovered was from donations. Nguyen was arrested on two felony charges of theft between $20,000-99,000, and criminal impersonation.
