Parents Petitioning AISD To Implement Recess Policy

A group of parents have started a petition asking for the AISD board to implement a mandatory 30 minute recess for all AISD schools.

According to the petition on change.org, out of 37 elementary AISD schools, half of them have a 10-15 minute daily recess. Some parents feel that is not enough time and simply not fair because other schools have more recess time.

Apparently, most schools get 20 minutes and there is one AISD elementary school that gets a full 30 minute recess. Texas recently moved to a minutes versus days schedule that will be implemented in the 2016 school year. That means elementary schools in AISD will be adding on extra minutes to the school day. Right now, there is no AISD policy on recess.

Dallas ISD has recently approved of a mandatory rule that all 150 elementary school have a 30 minute daily recess.
