A San Diego, California man is accused of murdering his boyfriend in Hale County in West Texas.

On Wednesday, September, 8th, 2021, a federal grand jury with the Northern District of Texas indicted 23-year-old Alexander Yoichui Duberek for interstate domestic violence. Duberek also saw an independent state charge of murder.

The indictment says on October 31st, 2020, Duberek allegedly travelled across state lines, from California to Texas, with the purpose of killing his significant other, 30-year-old Chad David Luera, of Plainview. Authorities allege that Duberek stabbed Luera to death. The victim's body was found the following morning on the side of a road along Farm-to-Market Road 400 in Hale County.

After the body was found, a family member the victim said Duberek and Luera were together on the night before his death. After a few months of searching for Duberek, who was being sought as a person of interest in the case, he turned himself in to officials in San Diego after a warrant for his arrest was issued in March 2021.

If convicted of the above charges, Alexander Yoichui Duberek faces up to life in federal prison.

The Texas Rangers, along with the Hale County Sheriff's Office, spearheaded the investigation. Assistance was given by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Dallas Field Office.
