One of the biggest talking points over the last year in Amarillo and Canyon has been the future of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. It's been kind of a contentious issue since the building was shut down for code issues.

To recap, last March, the building was shut down after a fire inspection cited 149 violations. The building was deemed unsafe and had to shut its doors. Since then, the Historical Society had been given a date of February 1 by West Texas A&M President Walter Wendler to clear out the museum's collection.

Save The Museum Group Comes Alive

A Facebook group popped up not long after the museum had to close their doors, and it gained a lot of followers. As of right now, the group is sitting at over 6,000 members.

The group has been very active and vocal, looking for any way they can to save the museum and keep everything right where it is. They've shared memories, pictures, created petitions, and now, they've taken it a step further.

Save Our Museum Rally

On Saturday, January 17th, there will be a big rally that includes a march to try and further their efforts to save the museum. It will kick off at noon at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. The event is scheduled to last until around 3 pm.

The message is simple. They want to get out the word on how much the museum means to them, and to do everything they can to try and save the largest historical museum in Texas. You can find more details on their Facebook page.
