Western Street has been torn up due to construction and that's caused a traffic nightmare.  Just when you were getting used to it, they're about to go change it up.

Here is the good news, the first phase of this construction project is done. The bad news, the traffic pattern around the construction will change and will flip to the other side of the street.

You will be able to drive on the brand new paved lanes on Western, but you'll have to get used to the inverted traffic pattern.

If you drive in that area, pay attention to the posted signs and construction workers on site. You can expect delays as they switch over.

The switch over was supposed to take place on Thursday, March 10, but due to inclement weather it has been moved to next week.

Once this phase of the construction has finished, then it will move north of 45th and start the construction on that phase.

We all know that construction is annoying and it takes longer to get places, but it's nice that we will have new streets to drive on.

The thing about construction in Amarillo is it never ends.  Once this project is finished they will start another project which means we will just have to get used to delays in other areas of the city.

That's the guarantee about Amarillo, you will always see construction cones all over the city.

All I can say is I have had to rearrange my routes to places because of this construction on Western, so maybe I'm not the only one.  Maybe, when they finally get it finished everyone will be used to their new routines, and it won't be so crowded.

One can hope.
