Portlandia is a pretty hot search right now, I bet because most people have no idea what it is.  Portlandia, a series on IFC, circles around a concept of individuals living in Portland, OR.   The show basically makes fun of the city, with the premise of the show being that the city is stuck in the 90's.  So in the city, you run into a bunch of new age hippies and crazy pot smokers that are all vegan.

Portlandia is about to debut it's second and longer season this Friday on IFC.  The first season was only 6 episodes and really didn't get much hype.  But season 2 is getting blown up big time by IFC.

I watched the first season on Netflix so I could have an idea of what I was talking about as I typed this blog and the best way I can describe it is a sketch comedy show with 2 main actors that portray the vast majority of the characters.  Fred Armisen, who is on Saturday Night Live, and Carrie Brownstein, who was in the band Sleater-Kinney and now leads the band Wild Flag.

It's definitely a Lorne Michaels product, and compares to his others like Kids In The Hall and maybe a crappy version of Saturday Night Live.

The first season wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.  It had it's moments, but it was a learning point of the show where they basically just threw things together.  Now, with a budget, we can expect more episodes, better quality production and better writers.

It's a show you should give a chance if you like zany characters that are always at the tipping point of obnoxious, and wild sketch's that make you go "huh?" and then laugh out loud.

Portlandia, ladies and gentlemen, is truly a state of mind with this show.  It's where you can work a part time job, have no money or car, play video games all day, smoke pot and still be a thriving/contributing member of society.
