Where Can I Find Real Prairie Dogs in Amarillo?

Prairie Dogs are a huge part of the Texas Panhandle.  However, if you haven't seen a prairie dog close up, here's where you can go in Amarillo.

Hodgetown

Ha!  I had to put this on in, I just had to, because that's where our Amarillo Sod Poodles live along with the main sod poodle, Ruckus.

North of I-40 on Soncy

In the area by The Plaza, north and east and west, you can see these little guys pop their heads out or their little holes.

Randall High School

I know before a lot of the remodeling of Randall High School, and the housing development behind, you could always see a ton of prairie dogs. I'm sure they still have some.

Our Radio Transmitter Sites

Our transmitter sites are located outside of Amarillo in fields, so that means they are home to thousands of prairie dogs.

Most Farmland in the Amarillo Area

Prairie Dogs are somewhat of a nuisance to farmers.  They have a habit of burrowing tunnels underground and eating the vegetation.

If you want to make the short drive to Lubbock, they have an actual area dedicated to prairie dogs

It's called Prairie Dog Town and is located in Mackenzie Park off of 4th Street and I-27.  This is a fun place to visit.  They seem to really enjoy carrots.

If you are out and about and see a prairie dog in the wild, just let them be.  I know these creatures are cute and look like they may want to be cuddled, but don't touch it.  They are still wild animals.
