‘Whitney’ Documentary Trailer Reveals Icon’s Rise and Fall [WATCH]
Whitney Houston is undoubtedly pop music’s greatest voice. And while there have been several autobiographies about the late singer’s life, fans haven't be afforded to know the whole truth about her, until now. The new trailer for the upcoming documentary Whitney, reveals the highs and lows that came with the singer's stardom.
The emotional trailer begins with Houston’s 1992 hit “I Have Nothing” from the Grammy-winning soundtrack The Bodyguard, as a voiceover says that Whitney “had so much so soul, so much spirit.”
From there, we see flashing images of childhood photos, vintage footage of Houston performing and interviews from friends and family who worked closely with the beloved singer.
“She was simple,” said Pat Houston, the singer's former manager and the executor of Houston's estate. “She became Whitney Houston when it was time for her to get on stage.”
Whitney, which chronicles the life and career of Whitney Houston, will feature details about her life, her past live performances, unreleased tracks and home movie footage. In addition, there are interviews with Whitney's mother Cissy Houston, music mogul Clive Davis, Whitney's ex-husband Bobby Brown and many others.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald directed the documentary and was given unprecedented access to a treasure trove of archives from Houston’s estate.
"I approached Whitney's life like a mystery story; why did someone with so much raw talent and beauty self-destruct so publicly and painfully?" he said in a press release. "I was lucky enough to have the support of Pat Houston and the Whitney Houston estate in this quest. They entrusted me with the 'keys to the vault' while giving me complete freedom to follow the story wherever it went. At heart, Whitney is an intimate family story that reveals a new side to a woman that even her most die-hard fans never knew."
Whitney will be released on July 6 through Roadside Attractions and Miramax. Watch the trailer below.
