While your dogs were listening to me on the radio, Amarillo Canine Officer Sunny was making a bust (Law and Order BUH-BUH sound effect). Tuesday morning an unnamed Amarillo officer and Officer K9 Sunny were on a drug stakeout in the early ours of the morning, discovering more than a million dollars’ worth of cocaine and heroin.

In the unspecified incident the Amarillo Police Department stated that the Sunny discovered five pounds of heroin as well as nine pounds of cocaine. The drugs had a street value of more than one million dollars.

There were no names or offenders named in the Amarillo Police report, the department is still investigating where the origin of the drugs came from and to where they were intended.

Back in May Canine Officer Sunny discovered 18.5 pounds of methamphetamine in two separate interdiction incidents this weekend. That makes a total of 89.8 pounds of meth found by Amarillo Police Department canines in their last five interdiction operations. I think Sunny needs a raise and maybe a 72 ounce steak.

Methamphetamine continues to be the drug of choice in Amarillo. Methamphetamine is getting people addicted at a faster rate than any other drug in Texas and majority of crime stems from this addiction.

We applaud the effort of the Amarillo Police Department canines in their war on drugs in our area.

Who’s a good boy? Yes Sunny you are!
