Following up on the story about the Amarillo man that was arrested and charged with injury to a child, the toddler is alive, but in a drug induced coma.

He is slowly coming back from coma, but still in critical condition.

The 23 month old boy is said to be almost entirely covered in bandages after suffering life threatening burns to his face, head, back and groin area.

Amarillo Globe News reports:

Doctors also will take the toddler off a breathing tube to check if he can breathe on his own, she said.

Officers discovered the injuries after the toddler’s 20-year-old mother flagged them down at the police station Monday, officials said.

Prosecutors have charged Ismael Gardea Navarrette, 27, aka Ismael Gardea Navarrete, with injury to a child after he failed to seek medical care for the boy, authorities said. Navarrette, who police said was the mother’s boyfriend, was supposed to be watching over the child at the time of the incident, authorities said.

Navarrette remained in the Potter County jail Thursday under a $150,000 bond.

I know we're all pissed off at this Ismael guy, who was supposed to be caring for the child at the time of the incident, but should we just blame him only?
