Denver Broncos defensive coach Wade Phillips earned his first Super Bowl title last night when the Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10. You're probably wondering how this all ties in with Amarillo...Right?

Here's something interesting about Wade Phillips: his family lived here in Amarillo for several years and Wade went to Fannin Middle School. Wade attended Fannin as a 7th, 8th, and 9th grader from 1959 -1962. He also played football and basketball all 3 years. In 9th grade, Wade was the captain of the football team. He was also part of the Latin Club, Hi-Y (a service organization) and the student council.Another fun fact is that Wade's father, "Bum" Phillips, was a coach for the Amarillo Sandies football team.

After their stay here in Amarillo, the Wade family moved on, and both father and son became successful coaches in the NFL. Wade Phillips had many coaching jobs in his career. You might have remembered when Wade was hired as the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys from 2007-2010. He recently accepted the defensive coaching position for the Denver Broncos in 2015 and now has won his first Super bowl title.

Good to see that Amarillo has an association with Super Bowl 50. If you ever walk down the hallways of Fannin Middle School, look for the autographed football signed by Wade.

Congrats to Wade Phillips on winning his very first Super Bowl title with the Denver Broncos!
