Smalls Sliders Is Coming to Amarillo After Original Deal Fell Through

About a year ago, we shared with you that Smalls Sliders was coming to Amarillo. In that year, nothing ever happened: no big orange shipping containers, no land purchased, and definitely no Smalls Sliders. That tells you how things can change fast.

What Happened to the Original Smalls Sliders Deal?

Eli Cohen and Mark Crayne of C5 Restaurants were supposed to bring Smalls Sliders to Amarillo, but the deal fell through. However, all is not lost. Even though that deal fell through, two Amarillo businessmen have stepped up to bring Smalls Sliders into Amarillo.

Who Are the New Owners Bringing Smalls Sliders to Amarillo?

Justin Chick and Andrew Bailey signed a three-store deal with Smalls Sliders.

Justin had discovered that the Amarillo territory for Smalls Sliders had opened, and he reached out to the company to let them know that, "if that deal falls through, to give me a call." So after the original franchisee chose a different opportunity, Smalls Sliders reached out to these Amarillo locals.

This is home to us. We're from Amarillo and spent a lot of time working and living and vacationing in Lubbock as well. We prefer these two cities and are excited to be able to bring Smalls Sliders here.

Where Will Smalls Sliders Be Located in Amarillo?

When speaking with Justin and Andrew, they said they are looking on the south side of Amarillo for a location for Smalls Sliders, on Bell, Coulter, or Soncy. In fact, right after our call, they were meeting with their real estate person to go over some options.

They had originally wanted a location near I-40 and Georgia because of the central location. But the land wasn't available, or it was too costly. The reason they are looking into south Amarillo is that they have the opportunity to purchase land rather than squeezing into a shopping center pad site.

When you get into the south parts of Amarillo that are developing the land, there's an opportunity for us to buy our land.

What Is the Smalls Sliders Timeline?

Their plan for their three stores starts with Amarillo, then they will begin looking at Lubbock, and depending on how those two stores do, they will choose a third location.  It could be another city, or it could be another location in Amarillo, possibly in the Gem Lake Rd. area. However, they have to get the first location up and running.

This restaurant won't be your typical brick-and-mortar store. The Smalls Sliders restaurant uses a modular building approach.

It's a modular building that gets brought in, and then there's that known orange storage can that gets placed on top.

The Smalls Sliders buildings are known as cans. This type of build costs less and uses less land.

It's much quicker to get open this way.

The build will be very similar to other restaurants like West Texas Fresh and Mix'd Up that have done well in Amarillo. That was also a selling point to the Smalls Sliders franchise team. They liked seeing how well that concept has worked in Amarillo.

So what is the timeline for Smalls Sliders to open up in Amarillo? Justin and Andrew tell us around 12 months. So fingers crossed by this time next year, we'll be enjoying some mouth-watering Smalls Sliders.
