Originally, on August 10th, 2013, a Dodge truck was struck by 2 separate trains as it was crossing the tracks located in the 600 block of N Eastern in Amarillo.  Witnesses told officers that they observed the truck disregard the railroad crossing barricades.  There was a 38 year old male driving, and a 4 year old boy riding.  The child was ejected from the truck and died of injuries from the collision.  The driver, Edgar Rangel, was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.  Sunday, August 18th, he was released from the hospital and arrested on an outstanding warrant for manslaughter.

"UPDATE: On Sunday (August 18th) Edgar Rangel W/M 38 was released from the hospital after getting treated for his injuries suffered in the collision. Rangel was subsequently arrested and booked into Potter County Correction Center on a warrant for Manslaughter.

DETAILS: On August 10, 2013 at approximately 9:25 PM, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle vs. a train collision in the 600 block of N. Eastern. Upon their arrival they discovered a 2002 Dodge 1500 had been struck by two separate trains as it was crossing the tracks located in the 600 block of N Eastern. Witnesses told officers that they observed the truck disregard the railroad crossing barricades. The Dodge was pulling a horse trailer that had a single horse in it. The Dodge was driven by a WM age 38 of Amarillo. The only passenger in the Dodge truck was a 4 year old WM. The collision with the train caused the child to be ejected from the truck. He died at the scene from injuries he received in the collision. Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones has ordered an autopsy. No BNSF employees were injured in the crash. The driver was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. Alcohol is a factor in this case. The collision is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation squad of the Amarillo Policed Dept."
