Man Dies In Plane Crash In Southeast Amarillo

We broke the story about the plane crash that happened in southeast Amarillo this morning, but the details were sketchy to say the least when we reported it.  No details about the crash or passenger(s) inside it had been released.  We still haven't gotten anything from APD, but Amarillo Globe News is reporting that it was a fatal plane crash.

Amarillo Globe News:

"A man was killed early Thursday after a small single-engine airplane clipped a manufactured home in the 2100 block of South Mirror Street and crashed just before 8:45 a.m., Department of Public Safety spokesman Daniel Hawthorne said.

The pilot reported engine problems after takeoff and crashed shortly afterward, according to the National Transportation Safety Board, which investigates aircraft accidents.

Emergency crews have blocked off Southeast 21st Avenue and South Mirror Street."

Very sad to hear.
