Amarillo Police Investigate Fatal Forklift/Truck Crash

Around 7:30a, Amarillo police officers were dispatched to a traffic collision in the 4600 block of Bushland Blvd.  Upon arrival, officers learned that a forklift collided with a Ford F-350 truck while the forklift operator was trying to cross Bushland Blvd.  The driver of the forklift sustained injuries from the crash, and later died at the hospital.

Amarillo Police:

"On August 5th at approximately 7:23 AM, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision in the 4600 block of Bushland Blvd. Officers found that a 2004 Nissan Forklift had been off loading roofing materials from a tractor trailer. The forklift was being driven by Walter Orville Faux, WM, 50 of Amarillo. Faux was driving north bound across Bushland, crossing in front of the parked tractor. The forks of the forklift struck an eastbound 1992 Ford F-350 driven by Johnny Villegas, HM, 19 of Amarillo. The forklift tipped over. Faux was injured in the event. Faux was taken to a local hospital where he later died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Justice of the Peace Debbie Horn has ordered an autopsy."

The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Dept.
