With the blizzard still having a strangle hold on the city yesterday, I think the last thing anyone expected was a house fire.  However, a mobile home on Loop 335 in Amarillo caught fire yesterday, causing firefighters to battle the blaze in freezing temperatures and surrounded by snow 1-3ft deep!

Thankfully, there were no injuries in the blaze, but over $80,000 in damages was caused according to Amarillo Fire Rescue Chief - Richard Lake.

"Lake said 19 firefighters and eight trucks were called about 4 p.m. to the blaze at 4100 North Loop 335.

There were people in the home when the fire started, but everyone was able to get out and no injuries were reported, Lake said."

Chief Lake said the fire originated in the living room and the fire was under control by 5pm.

The Potter/Randall Appraisal District said the mobile home is valued at $2,540 and sits on land valued at $15,719.  That doesn't quite add up to the $80,000 in damage, I'm no mathematician, but something tells me the numbers are off.  My only guess is that these folks had some really nice things in their mobile home.  Either way, it just goes to show, you always have to be safe and watch out for these kinds of things!  Check your batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors too, keep you and your family safe!

(Note, the picture above is NOT a picture of the actual fire in question.)
