An approval by Texas Department Of Transportation gives the grant to pay for extra police officers in Amarillo.

It's all an effort to better patrol for impaired drivers, and other traffic violations, so if you've been "lucky" so far, it's time to seriously start assigning a designated driver!

Amarillo Globe News:

The $150,000 grant includes a 25 percent funding match from the City of Amarillo and will fund the extra patrols from Monday through September 2013, Davis said.

Davis also added that a recent survey showed about 88% of all drivers in Amarillo actually using their seat-belts.  So not only will eyes be open for intoxicated drivers, but seat-belt violators as well.

20 traffic accidents have taken 25 lives this year alone in Amarillo.  9 were from drunk drivers, others involved speeding/reckless driving, 6 of the fatalities were not wearing a seat-belt.
