Eating Dinner At the Table Together Has Helped My Family Blossom
With everyone's busy schedules, it is often difficult to sit down and have dinner at the table as a family. But I find it necessary to keep my family on the right track.
Growing up we never ate dinner at the table. As a matter of fact, we hardly ever ate as a family. My mom always worked and my older siblings didn't feel the need to have a sit down dinner. We ate when we got hungry.
Once my son was born, I knew that I wanted things to be different. I wanted to spend as much time with him as possible. So I made family dinner a household rule. We have to spend at least one meal at the table, together.
It didn't always work out as planned. Everyone was on a different schedule. My hubby returned to college and he often had evening classes. I felt that we were falling into my childhood routine, eat when you're hungry.
I decided that I was going to push this one way or another. So I did. On days that we could not sit down as a family for dinner, we switched it for breakfast. We worked really hard to make sure we had at least one meal together at the table.
It really made a huge difference. We were able to talk about the week's events and stuff that happened with our little guy. It took a lot of work, but in the end it made us a stronger family.
Now, each and every one of us look forward to dinner time. A special time dedicated to family. No cell phones are allowed at the table, no TV, just family.
