There is no handbook to being a mother, but some things are just common sense.  A New Jersey mother has been arrested and accused of allowing her 5 year old daughter to use a tanning bed.

I don't have to tan, it comes naturally.  So I can honestly say I have never been in a tanning bed.  But I do watch the news.  I know what happens to adults who use them over time.  So it is just common sense that you wouldn't allow your child to use a tanning bed.

A New Jersey mother has been arrested and charged with second-degree child endangerment after being accused of letting her 5 year old daughter use a tanning bed.  Yes, you read that right 5 years old.

This is extremely disturbing to me on so many levels.  Of course the obvious is the danger involved.  Not only are the ultraviolet light harmful,  but they can damage DNA, causing mutations as well as formations of dangerous skin cancer cells

Mutations and skin cancer.  Moms are suppose to protect their children, not cause mutations.  This is so disgusting.  According to a New York dermatologist, going to the tanning salon is the equivalent to smoking for the skin.

Another huge problem I have with this situation is the fact that she is making her daughter think she needs to tan.  This could cause her daughter to have serious body issue problems. Five year old shouldn't be thinking about how tan they look.  They should be thinking about fun, kid stuff like blowing bubbles or something.

Too Much Tanning

This mother admits to taking her daughter to the salon but denies allowing her in the bed.  However, the girl told school officials that she did go into the tanning bed.  The mom insists that her sunburn was from gardening over the weekend.

Hmmm, 5 year old usually don't lie unless they are told to.  The mom is out on $25,000 bail and the little girl is with her dad.

I don't know what the truth is in the case, but I do know that if she did allow her daughter to tan she should be locked up.
