Year three of Help 4 The Holidays is underway from Mayco Plaza, and with so many people in need this holiday season, we have a daunting task ahead of us.

20 local nonprofits right here in Amarillo and Canyon are counting on us, and in order for us to get them what they need, we need you.

Now yesterday was day one, so I'm not reading into anything or panicking, but I'd be remiss if I didn't say I wasn't a little bit concerned about where we are after the first day.

Over the course of 12 hours of broadcasting, we only had three generous individuals show up with items for the drive. It's a start, but not the one we were hoping for.

We understand that maybe you were hearing about it for the first time yesterday, and obviously the first day of anything is going to be slower than any other day typically, but we're hoping you can find it in your heart to come on out.

One of the things I hammered on yesterday was the fact that a lot of what we need can be found at the dollar stores around town. Now, while nothing these days is truly a buck, many of the items we need are $1.25. Just imagine how much you could help with just $20 spent.

Toiletries are always a big thing on our list. Items such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. and we need a lot of that. Those items I know for sure are only $1.25 at the dollar stores.

Other items such as cleaning supplies and crafts stuff can be found pretty easily and in bulk at the dollar stores as well. Those are items we need as well, and again, quite a bit of it.

Other things we're going to need over the course of the week are diapers of all sizes, but specifically size 6, wipes, toys that are new in box and packaging, kids books, board games & card games are littered on the list as well.

As we get moving with day two, we're hoping you can drop by on your lunch break or just after work and drop off a few items. Help kickstart us and let's see how much we can band together and take care of our neighbors here in Amarillo and Canyon.
