Mother's Day is just around the corner and the search for that perfect gift has begun.  But who will give the best gifts-sons or daughters?  Well if love was measured in money, then sons love their moms 60% more.

We've all heard of momma's boys and daddy's girls but is that the way it really works?  Do sons really love their moms more?  I don't know.  But what I do know is that I love my mom very much.  I will admit that I am a huge momma's girl.  At the same time I know for a fact that my son is a momma's boy.

Well if love was measured in money, then the boys would win.  According to marketing charts, sons will spend 60% more on mother's day gifts then daughters will.  The average man will spend around $189.74 on his momma.  While women will spend around $117.42.

So why do men spend more on their moms?  Here is my theory-guilt.  Most men aren't really into the day to day interaction that women are so they feel like they need to go above and beyond on holidays. I am not saying all men, but a lot that I know of.

For example, I do not live in the same city as my mom but I call her everyday.  We can talk for hours and it still isn't enough.  I send her 'just because' or 'missing you' cards every now and then.  I try and go see her as often as I can.  My husband does none of those things.  He can go weeks before I make him call his mom.

Then the holidays come around and I pick a gift for my mom-usually not really expensive-but I know she'll love it.  He goes for bigger and expensive.

So my next theory is that men don't really shop so when they do they go all out.

Whatever reason, moms don't care how much you spend on them.  All they really want is to see you and to hear your voice.  It is the simplest things that make moms happy.

So don't forget Mother's Day is this Sunday!
