Just around 1am Wednesday morning the Amarillo Police responded to a 2-vehicle accident at the intersection of SW 34th and Bell that ended up sending two people to the hospital.

A 2007 Toyota 4-Runner driven by 25-year-old Michael Raymond Tamayo was headed west-bound on SW 34th. A 2011 black Chevrolet Equinox was heading southbound on Bell St. Tamayo ran the red light, causing the front end of his 4-runner to strike the front end of the Equinox. The Equinox driver had to be extricated from the vehicle by the jaws of life by Amarillo firefighters. Both the driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital with injuries.  Officials say that alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.
Tamayo was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail for Intoxicated Assault with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury. Thanks to Amarillo Firefighters, EMT, and Police officers for responding very quickly to this bad accident!

Just a reminder - please do not drink and drive!
