Why Doesn’t Amarillo Offer Up Free Cab Rides On New Years Eve? [POLL]

I'm just thinking out loud here, but I think instead of sinking a ton of money into man power for "sobriety check points" and just all around increased police officers on the clock due to the overwhelming amount of drunk drivers on New Years Eve.  I think making an initiative to offer free taxi cab rides on New Years Eve in Amarillo would be a very good solution!  Would it stop it all?  No, of course not, but would it help?  Well, it couldn't hurt!  With this poll, I want to find out!

I called around to all cab companies in Amarillo that I could find on Google, and none of them are offering up free cab rides for New Years Eve, which I could understand, you need to make some money.  But what if you did free cab rids, tip required?  You'd still make some cash right?

Is this something the city of Amarillo could maybe budget for?  Pay the taxi cab companies each a certain amount of dollars to offer free rides home for those that are to drunk to drive on NYE.  This would allow them to offer a solution for citizens, still increase APD man power, just not as much.

Again, I'm just thinking out loud, but I seriously think that free taxi cab rides for the citizens of Amarillo on New Years Eve is something our city commission or whatever branch of the city departments makes those decisions to look into.
