Yesterday, a listener reached out to us after witnessing and incident that happened at Westover Junior High

The school was put on a "Lockdown" early Monday (Jan 26) after a parent disturbance. Faculty said a parent got upset to the point that the called for a lockdown. This is the CISD procedure when a parent becomes upset.

The lockdown was made over the school intercom for all teachers to initiate what they call a "sit-down." It's a procedure where kids have to sit quietly right where they are at until the lockdown is called off. A person who witnessed the incident said that the parent got loud and upset. The school liaison tried to calm the situation but it did not defuse.

The school liaison then had to tase the parent and detain him till APD got there. APD arrived within minutes of the lockdown.

Here is the conversation with Canyon ISD:

CISD: “It was around lunchtime.”

Interviewer: “Ok, the story that we got was a parent went in to register/enroll his child into school and was told he had to go somewhere else?”

CISD: “No, he can register there. With Canyon ISD, we register our students with online registration, so he can register there.”

Interviewer: “So, what was the reasoning for the lockdown?”

CISD: “Um, he was an upset parent. And so for precautionary measures when parents get upset, we lock down. Our main priority is our students.”

Interviewer: “Ok, was he tased?”

CISD: “Yes sir.”

Interviewer: “Was there a message sent out to parents about the lock down. There was a message on Facebook and parents were saying that they didn’t even hear about this.”

CISD: “There was a tweet that was sent out by the principle.”

Interviewer: “Is it just a tweet that they have to be on twitter to receive these messages?”

CISD: “No, they can go in and sign up for text messages.”

Interviewer: “So there is a way that parents can receive text messages if there is a lockdown.”

CISD: “Yes sir.”

Interviewer: “Were there any injuries?”

CISD: “Not that I’m aware of.  Anytime we get an upset parent that might be a little unstable, we go on precautionary lockdown.”

Interviewer: “I guess there are two different warnings, a lockdown and a sit-tight.”

CISD: “Yes sir.”

Interviewer: “Ok, a parent who was there heard over the walki-talkies that this was a lockdown.”

CISD: “Yeah, that’s probably what they said. They sat-tight.”

Interviewer: “Is there anything else that you want to add?”

CISD: “I will add, and you probably already know this, our students are our top priority and their safety is a concern to us.”

We had a chance to talk to a listener who witnessed the incident. For identity purposes we had to disguise their voice:
